Amaranth (choulai) grains are a staple of the mountain diet. Amaranth is rich in fiber, iron, protein, magnesium and other vitamins. It is a complete protein source, having the highest protein content among all cereals.  When combined with legumes, it is an excellent addition to a vegetarian diet or for anyone looking for a plant-based high-protein food source.

Amaranth (choulai) in the upper Tons Valley, Uttarakhand:

Amaranth -- one of the main grain summer crops in our region. It is one of the oldest grains in the world, and was first cultivated by the people of South America. The root word ‘amara’, in both Greek and Sanskrit, means eternal or deathless. In India, the amaranth is also known as ‘ramdana’, or god’s own grain. The amaranth grows all over India but the Himalayan regions have become a mainstay for its cultivation. Amaranth is a hardy crop, that requires very little water and gives a very high and nutritious yield of both fibre and grain. Due to its high nutiritiion and energy content, amaranth is favoured by farming communities in the mountains as part of their daily meal. A traditional farmer's breakfast in our region almost always contains amaranth.

Farmers who have amaranth which is surplus to their annual food and seed purpose, sell to earn money. We are supporting these hard working farmers by finding a fair market for their amaranth and adding value to it by processing it to flour in local traditional flour mills. We pay a fair price that compensates them for growing amaranth in remote fields which don't even have access to a road. The harvest has to be brought on mules to the nearest road and then transported for milling and then packed in our processing center.

Our amaranth is completely organic, grown using only natural compost and cow manure. No inorganic fertilizer or chemical pesticides are used. We are in the process of helping these farmers getting their produce certified organic very soon.

We are not a big e-commerce company focused on providing you instant gratification. We are trying to do things in our own way and are trying to work on things like technology, supply chain, customer service etc, from a very logistically challenged location. However, when it comes to products, we assure you nothing but the best.

Here are some important questions answered for you about how we ship our products:

How long does it take for me to get my products?

We have a fixed shipping schedule for orders. Monday is our designated shipping day. Every week, all orders made till Saturday 3 pm IST are processed for shipping on the following Monday.

Why does it take so long?

We process our orders in weekly batches. Our warehouse is in a very distant location. There is no way for us to ship small packets individually. We must process our orders in batches that can travel together in one vehicle to reduce the transportation cost from our warehouse to the shipping hub in Dehradun. We always send an email to confirm order dispatch on Saturday night.

How can I track my shipment?

Details will be emailed, please keep a track of your email.

How do you compensate in case of a lost or damaged shipment?
